Every year, we celebrate World Tuberculosis (TB) Day on March 24 to raise public awareness of the negative health, social and economic consequences of TB, and to intensify efforts to end the global TB epidemic.
This date marks the 1882 day when Dr. Robert Koch announced his discovery of the TB-causing virus, which opened the way for the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
TB remains one of the deadliest killers in the world. Each day, nearly 4,000 people lose their lives due to tuberculosis and about 28,000 people become ill with this preventable and curable disease. International efforts to combat TB have saved an estimated 63 million lives since 2000.
Ayurvedic perspective of TB :
TB is appropriately compared to Rajayakshma in Ayurveda.
Rajayakshma is mainly caused by Dhatukshaya (muscle paralysis or loss).
This process initiates the entire pathogenesis process in Rajayakshma patients. In addition, there is an inevitable immune system (Dhatwagninasana), in which rasa (tissue fluid), rakta (blood), mamsa (muscle), meda (adipose tissue), and sukra (production tissue) they are lost.
This leads to the final deterioration of the immune system or antibodies.
According to Ayurvedic concepts, abnormal metabolic changes sometimes lead to the loss of various dhatus (tissues) such as Ojokshaya, sukra, meda dhatus to rasa dhatu in a row, known as Pratilomakshaya.
Cause of TB :
Tuberculosis is an infection caused by a virus that spreads from person to person through tiny droplets released into the air. Although tuberculosis is highly contagious, it is not easy to catch it if close contact is made. People with active TB who have received appropriate treatment for at least two weeks or more do not infect others.
According to Ayurveda, restriction of strotas (channels) that carry part of a nutritious diet leads to symptoms such as kasa (cough) and others in Rajyakshma disease.
