Global Hand washing Day- 2020

October 15, 2020 4
Global Hand washing Day- 2020

Global hand washing Day - 2020

With the world facing the COVID-19 pandemic, washing hands and maintaining hand hygiene has become all the more important and need of the hour.

It is also one of the cheapest and easiest ways to prevent corona virus.

Here's everything you need to know about washing your hands to protect against not only COVID-19 but all viral, bacterial or Viroidal infections.

Many germs that can make people sick are spread when we don’t wash our hands with soap and clean, running water.

That is why handwashing is so important, especially at key times such as after using the bathroom, when preparing food, before eating, and after coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose.

Globally, over 1.2 million children under the age of five die from preventable diseases such as pneumonia and diarrhoea each year.

To put that another way, every 30 seconds a child is deprived of their future.

Yet, this could be prevented through the simple act of handwashing with soap.

Appropriate handwashing

A thorough handwashing should include rubbing hands, scrubbing all surfaces including hands, wrists, between the fingers and under the fingernails, Ideally it should last around 20  seconds but even only 15 seconds of soap and water handwashing, can reduce bacterial counts by  approximately 90% (Harvard Health Publications, 2007).

When to wash your hands

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention we should wash our hands..

  •  Before, during, and after preparing food
  •  Before eating food
  •  Before and after caring for someone who is sick
  •  Before and after treating a cut or wound
  •  After using the toilet
  •  After changing diapers or cleaning up a child who has used the toilet
  • After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
  • After touching an animal (including pet, animal feed, or animal waste)
  • After handling pet food or pet treats
  • After touching garbage

Use running water :-

Use running water instead of a basin of standing water that could become contaminated through use.

Warm water may be better than cold for handwashing as soap lathers (soaps up) better with warm water.

However, cold water and soap are still suitable. Hot water can damage the skin’s natural oils. Over time, this can cause dermatitis.

Take care of your hands

Global hand washing day

Handwashing is only one part of hand hygiene. Looking after your skin generally is important, as your skin is your most effective barrier against infection. After your hands have been dried thoroughly, you can help to look after your hands if you:

  • Apply a water-based absorbent hand cream three to four times a day, or more frequently if your hands are constantly in water.
  • Use gloves to wash dishes to protect your hands.
  • Use gloves when gardening to prevent a build-up of ingrained soil or scratches.
  • Consult a doctor if a skin irritation develops or continues.

Sanitizers :-

When soap and water is not available, a gel or wipe sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol can be used.

However Sanitizers do not eliminate all types of germs and their efficiency is based on the  volume and the time on the hands (it is better left dried on than wiped) Sanitizers don’t remove  pesticides, harmful chemicals and heavy metals.

Hand sanitizer precautions:

Hand sanitizer is flammable and if you keep large containers of hand sanitizer in your facility, they need to be stored like flammable liquids. Keep hand sanitizer out of the reach of children.

Children should be discouraged from licking their hands after applying hand sanitizer.

While there is no evidence that children have been poisoned from this behavior, it is a necessary precaution.

I recommend you to use soap or Hand wash instead of sanitizer.

So, always remember that..

Handwashing is an important health-promoting practice that can reduce or eliminate harmful germs.

A liquid soap is a better choice over a soap bar. A sanitizer plus some tissues in your bag, might be very useful in situations where there is no soap or water.

Tissues can be used to hold dirty surfaces  such as a faucet or a doorknob in a public toilet.

 Cure Cold and cough

It's getting cold now and so cold getting common...

As the seasons change many people are suffering from throat pain, sore throat, common cold ,sneezing and even fever.

Their impact might be small but if not treated properly then it often leads to viral fever.

This is because of a holistic approach is missing.only home remedies can not cure it so I'll suggest some Ayurvedic routine for get rid of it permanently.

1]. Powerful concoction for common cold and for all cough related issues  :-

Start your day with this amazing drink it will help to improve your all problems related cough.

Put the 1 glass of water on the flame and add ginger paste or dry ginger 1/4th teaspoon of turmeric powder 4-5 crushed black pepper, a pinch of giloy juice (optional), 7-8 crushed tulsi (basil) leaves then mix it well.

Now cover the container and let it boil and boil until the water will remain about 1/4 of a glass.

After that your concoction will ready.turn off the flame and using a strainer put it in a glass.

Add a teaspoon of honey and a lemon juice after getting normal temperature.

(Do not add honey in hot drink as is it very harmful for your body.)

Then drink it slowly sip by sip.take a while..enjoy it..and do not eat anything at least an hour after having it.

This drink is very effective than any antibiotics or pills.

2]. Take a steam :-

One of the effective yet underrated way to get rid if cough issues is to take steam.

Just follow these simple steps..

  • Heat up the water to boiling.
  • Carefully pour the hot water into the bowl.
  • Drape the towel over the back of your head.
Then slowly lower your head toward the hot water until you’re about 8 to 12 inches away from the water.

Be extremely careful to avoid making direct contact with the water.

Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose for at least two to five minutes.

cover your eyes and turn off the fan of your room during this process.

And do not take it more than 15 minutes.

3]. Apply amrit dhara (enemy of common cold) :-

Amrit dhara is an  oil like concoction made up of camphor, peppermint , carrom seeds , loh bhasma and laung tel and few other ayurvedic herbs.

Amrit dhara is especially effective in relieving issues of cough, cold, throat & head ache etc..

Take a couple of its drops and apply it on outer part of your nose neck and the chest.

Use only small quantity of it as it is so strong and highly effective.just rub it on your chest.

After applying amrit dhara do one more important thing that is take steam again.

you can also add a couple of drop of amrit dhara in water and take steam of it for 10 to 15 minutes then take blissful sleep whole night.

DOs AND DON'Ts during cold

1]. Do not bathe during fever

Do not take a bath during these conditions. If you are suffering from fever, sponging with tepid water will reduce it, but postpone bathing until you recover. When you are over the worst of the illness, a shower will be fine.

2]. What to eat when you are ill

If you are ill enough to have to be in bed, avoid meat, as your digestive fire will be too low to cope with it.

For the same reason, do not use oil either externally or by mouth.

Once you start to recover, and your appetite improves, you can drink warm rice water drained from well-cooked rice. Rice water is highly nourishing, yet it is undemanding on your digestive fire.

Drink a lot of fluid, get more rest.

3]. Don't Go to Work

Stay home with your cold and do your work from home and take enough rest.

4]. Do Have Sex Sparingly

Research has shown that having sex can boost immunity.

But if you're sniffling and coughing everywhere, your partner is likely to decline your offer!

Heart care with Ayurveda

 Heart treatment in Ayurveda:-

Heart is a vital organ and needs a lot of care.

We ignore the heart health generally by not following the right diet and lifestyle as recommended.

Considering the lack of awareness about heart diseases, every year on 29 September, World Heart Day is celebrated to increase awareness about the CVD (Cardiovascular Diseases) as the world’s leading cause of death.

According to the World Heart Federation, an estimated one crore 73 lakh people die annually due to heart related problems.

Signs of Healthy or unhealthy heart :-

Signs of a healthy heart include regular heart rate, normal blood pressure, a feeling of wellbeing, good exercise capacity, good skin colour, good digestion and a normal range of cholesterol and triglycerides.

On the other hand, the signs of an unhealthy heart are low energy and emotions, reduction of exercise tolerance and capacity, more tiredness, mauve/purple colour to the fingernails and lips, raised blood pressure, abnormal pulse rate and pain in the chest.

Ayurvedic perspective of Heart and heart related disorder :-

According to the science of Ayurveda, the heart is the storehouse of energy.

As modern science says Ayurveda also said that heart is a vital (marma) organ. Also considered as a part of Trimarma (shir+hriday+basti).

As per principles of Ayurveda, many diseases are due imbalance of doshas which get vitiated and also blocking of channels with toxins (called ama) causing a harmful effect.

The main Ayurvedic approach is to pacify these doshas, to stop the destructive processes, and to cleanse the ama from the channels to allow more of the body's healing to be active.

There are ample references and indications about the intake of certain Ayurvedic herbs for the heart, which helps and maintains the heart’s function properly.

Some Ayurvedic herbs for heart :-

1]. Arjuna:-

Heart diseases are caused mainly because of congestion, hardening and inflammation of the arteries that causes a restriction in blood flow.

These hardened arteries also put a lot of pressure on heart tissues and muscles.

Known as Ayurveda's wonder, this herb helps in the reducing congestive arteries, cardiac muscles strengthening and keeping the blood pressure low.

2]. Ashwagandha :-

This could also be called as Indian Ginseng, a miraculous herb. It has numerous indications.

Herbal tea bags containing Ashwagandha are good for reducing tension and stress, which are major causes of heart diseases.

It is known for reducing the tension of the mind and the body and also helps in heart muscle strengthening.

It pacifies vitiated doshas of the body.

3]. Guggulu:-

This herb has properties to pacify vata, pitta and kapha.

Regular use of this herb can help to control and maintain the good cholesterol level in the body. This can also be a cure for arthritis and psoriasis.

4]. Garlic :-

This herb has found to reduce cholesterol levels in the body and even remove blockages in the arteries.

When had regularly for 12 weeks, this can magically reduce high blood pressure and control cholesterol.

Ayurveda is harmless or not?

September 26, 2020 7
Ayurveda is harmless or not?

 Is Ayurvedic Medicine Safe?

• Most people think that since, Ayurveda uses natural herbs & remedies to cure an ailment, it is harmless.

• So they go about self-administering and self-treating via over the counter Ayurvedic medicines.

• However, experts strictly advise against this practice.

• All types of medication, Ayurvedic or not, have their side effects if the dosage is incorrect and taken without proper consultation & using a variety of herbal remedies without checking it with the doctor first could have serious repercussions.

• For ayurvedic medicine prescriptions to work, the following four factors, which are also the four pillars ( pāda chatusht) of the practice, need to be taken into consideration.

• They are :-
  1.  doctor ( bhishak
  2.  patient (Rogi)
  3.  caretaker (Upasthata)
  4.  medicine. (Dravya)
• Negligence on the part of any of the four might cause some complications.

• So self- medication is dangerous in Ayurveda just like any other conventional medical practice.

• There’s a lot of misinformation surrounding Ayurveda, a lot of which people tend to deem true.

• Always do your due diligence and try to look beyond what you know or hear around you.

• Ayurveda has a host of benefits (which have been widely documented), and in the hands of an expert practitioner, it can bring health, wellbeing, and happiness into your life.

• So, Ayurvedic medicine may also harmful if dosage is not proper or having medicine without proper diagnosis or checkup ( Rogi parikshan ).

• Because Ayurveda recommends medicines according to desha, kāla, prakriti etc..

• So, medicines for same disease can be different from person to person.

• So, Stay away from the myths and know the truth about it with AYURRAJ

Incompatible diet

 Incompatible Diet :-

(Virudhha Āhara )

• What is Virudhha Āhara?

• Viruddha Ahara is defined by Acharya Charaka as: certain diet and its combinations, which interrupts the metabolism of tissue, which inhibits the process of formation of tissue and which have the opposite property to the tissue are called as Viruddha Anna or incompatible diet.

•  The food which is wrong in combination, has undergone wrong processing, consumed in incorrect dose, and/or consumed in incorrect time of the day and in wrong season can also lead to Viruddha Ahara.

• According to Ayurveda, every food has its own
rasa,virya and vipaka.
• here, the rasa is taste of food, virya is a heating or cooling energy, and vipaka is the post digestive effect of food.

• When two or more foods having different rasa, virya and vipaka.. effect are combined, Agni (Digestive fire) can become overloaded,  inhibiting the enzyme system and resulting in the production of toxins.

• Yet, these same foods, if eaten separately, might well stimulate agni, be digested more quickly and even help to burn Āma (Semi Digested food).

• Poor combining can produce indigestion,
fermentation, putrefaction and gas formation and, if prolonged, can lead to toxemia and disease.
