Ocular vicarious menstruation

A 25-year-old woman gets tears of blood from her eyes during periods

• During ‘Ocular vicarious menstruation’, Bleeding occurs from the eyes,lips,lungs, stomach and nose.  

Doctors were also confused by the rare medical case of a 25-year-old married woman in Chandigarh. This woman had tears of blood flowing from her eyes during Periods. 

Seeing tears of blood in her eyes, the woman panicked and rushed to the hospital. However, she did not have pain anywhere else in his body. 

But tears of blood flowed from the eyes twice during the period. The case was published in the British Medical Journal.

Eye reports was normal :

Initially this woman did not understand any connection between periods and tears. She had his eyes checked, but all the reports came back normal. 

She did not have any eye injury or any such record in her family background. The woman did not understand the case, but the doctor found the cause.

Bleeding occurs from many parts of the body :

She was menstruating when the flow of the tear from the woman's eye turned to blood. Its rare condition is 'Ocular vicarious menstruation'. This condition also causes bleeding from the lips, eyes, lungs, stomach and nose.

Treatment :

The woman was given contraceptive pills during treatment. She has not had any problems for three months and is currently in good health.

Patient was treated with oral contraceptives containing a combination of estrogen and progesterone. 

After a three-month followup, the patient said she didn't have any other episodes of bloody tears.
